In college, I once heard philosopher and writer J.P. Moreland speak. I honestly don’t remember anything about his speech, except this quote: “You are a sum total of your habits.”
Wow. That’s a terrifying thought, isn’t it? I don’t know about you, but I tend to think of my good qualities as “me” and count my bad habits as something I do, rather than who I am. But the truth is, out of our heart, come our habits.
We truly are a sum total of our habits.
This is why New Year’s resolutions are so hard. We all want to be better, but lose our willpower, over time. In the battle between will and habits, habits win every time.
While Christmas season brings about a lot of joy in our lives as moms, it also breaks the rhythms of our daily lives and fills them with sugar, endless Christmas movies and bad sleeping patterns. January is a natural time to press ‘reset’ on our lives, which is why we will be doing a new series at Room for Joy called “Healthy Mama.”
This series will focus on YOU, Mama:
BODY, MIND & SOUL.
After all, you can’t properly care for your family, unless you have yourself in order first.
Here’s A Sneak Peek of a Few Things We Will Discuss:
1. Setting New Year’s Resolutions that we can actually keep.
2. Practicing stillness & reflection in our daily lives as moms. (Yes, it’s possible.)
3. Resetting our eating habits.
Mamas, if we want to live joyful lives, we must change our habits– and the only way to do this is together.
